Dave “Grom” Richards

Dave has been working in the avalanche and risk mitigation business for 25 years.  He has experience working in helicopter skiing, highway mitigation, legal risk management, and as the Director of a large ski resort avalanche program at Alta Ski Area.  Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of large-scale avalanche programs utilizing next-generation mitigation and mapping technology.  This includes the planning of Remote Avalanche Control Systems (RACS) installations, system operation and maintenance, and the development of a new explosive design for the Wyssen system. He has extensive experience with the use of hand charge explosives, avalaunchers, helicopters, and artillery for avalanche mitigation. Dave also has in depth knowledge of avalanche accident investigation, ski area terrain expansion, and professional audits of snow safety operations.
