Chantel Astorga

Chantel has over two decades of hands-on experience in snow safety. She started at Snowbird as a Ski Patroller, where she gained a deep understanding of avalanche operations and mountain hazard management. She later spent 15 years forecasting for Idaho Transportation’s highway avalanche program, one of the more demanding public-safety forecasting environments in the U.S., balancing weather, snow science, and real-time operational needs.

Outside her professional forecasting roles, she is also a committed alpinist and ski mountaineer, experiences that have taken her into complex mountain terrain around the world. These long years in the mountains have shaped her approach to risk management, problem-solving, and clear communication—qualities she brings to her consulting work with Avalanche Risk Solutions.
