Mark grew up in the Sierra Foothills and developed a love for skiing and rivers as a youngster. He obtained a business degree from Washington State University and headed for Utah to work in the ski Industry. His fascination with snow and avalanches led him to 10 years of pro patrol experience in the Wasatch and Sierra, five years of highway forecasting in WA State, and three years directing the non-profit arm of the Sierra Avalanche Center. Mark has been with our Union Pacific Railroad Avalanche program now since 2019 and is currently the project manager and lead forecaster. In his spare time he enjoys remote river trips, both mild and wild.
